Dr Nim Pathy gives a welcome simple explanation of why Covid-19 infections are much more widespread than the official figures for positive tests suggest. In addition: "In April, the British Medical Journal published a study which suggested 78 per cent of COVID-19 carriers do not experience symptoms, although studies have varied." This implies that 22% have experienced symptoms, perhaps serious enough to get tested. Assuming that this is the case, and looking at the current number of infections in England and Wales which is 300,000 (https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/#category=utlas&map=rate) this means that at least 1.36 million people in England and Wales have been infected at some time, out of a population of approx 57 millions.
